Abstract :
ARISTONA DARMALA, 1243015014, COMMUNICATION PATTERN
BETWEEN STUDENTS OUTSIDE THE ISLANDS WITH STUDENTS
SURABAYA POST COLLEGE ENTRY IN SURABAYA.
Communication and culture are not just two words, but two concept that can
not be separated. Intercultural communication occurs because of differences in
perception and habits between communicator and communicant. The existence of
cultural differences, able to cause a conflict between communicator with
communicant because the meaning obtained to experience uncertainty. However, the
uncertainty can be reduce if communicators with communicant capable of effective
communication process.
In the study using the theory of social exchange. There are four
communication pattern that become the basic concept of this research, namely the
pattern of balance, reserve balance pattern, unbalanced separation pattern, and
monopoly pattern. This research uses indepth interview technique and participant
observation. The analysis used is qualitative in the form of description or descriptive
explanation. From the interview result, it is known that the communication pattern
used between the students outer islands and the local students of Surabaya is the
pattern of communication balance, in communication between them is open, honest,
and free. No one is who rule or a follower. Both positions are the same.
