Abstract :
This research discusses the representation of women as misogynistic objects in the
popular Netflix series originating from South Korea, namely Squid Game 2021. The
research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method through a semiotic
approach. Roland Barthes' semiotics is used in this study to analyze and reveal the
meaning of denotation, connotation and myth. Data collection was obtained by
observing and watching the Squid game series, which were then taken to document
several scenes that led to the object of research. The results of the study are seen from
the meaning of denotation, misogynistic representations of women in the Squid Game
series are dominantly occurring verbally, namely the use of words that refer to insults,
sarcasm, threats, harassment. The representation of women as misogynistic objects in
this study is that South Korean society sees women as someone who must always be
under men's orders, serve men, and women's position must always be under men.
